Bee Frontier Explained: Design, Battery, Mics and Every Spec

Bee Frontier is the device most people will mean when they say "Amazon Bee". It is the direct successor to the original Bee Pioneer and the first new Bee hardware since Amazon bought the company in 2025. It costs $74.99 and went on sale at Amazon.com in the US on 15 October 2026.

The design: a pill on a band

Look closely at Amazon's renders and the layout is simple. A rounded, pill-shaped module sits in a silicone strap. On its face are:

  • one round button — the microphone button that controls when Bee listens,
  • two pin-hole openings, one above and one below the button — consistent with Amazon's "dual microphones",
  • a tiny indicator light below the button, which Amazon says shows when it is on.

There is no screen, no speaker and no camera. That is deliberate: Bee is a listening-and-writing device, and all reading happens on your phone or computer.

Engadget describes the module as Fitbit-like and says it is smaller and lighter than the Pioneer. Amazon calls the strap "ultra-soft silicone". Amazon has not published dimensions or weight.

Wrist or clip?

You can wear Frontier on the wrist or clip it to clothing. The choice matters more than it sounds:

  • Wrist is always with you, but your arm moves, rustles against sleeves and sits under tables. Expect more handling noise.
  • Clip (collar, pocket edge, lanyard) puts the microphones nearer your mouth and facing the people you talk to, which usually helps transcription. It is also more visible, which is good for consent.

Battery and charging

Amazon quotes up to seven days per charge — the same estimate as the Pioneer — and charging is over USB-C. "Up to" figures assume a typical pattern of listening; capturing long meetings every day will shorten it. Frontier also has an auto-off option that turns listening off after a set period of silence, such as 5 or 15 minutes, which both saves battery and stops it capturing hours of nothing. Bee's own product page says the range runs from 5 minutes to 24 hours.

IP67: what it covers

The Pioneer had no water rating. Frontier is IP67: dust-tight, and tested to survive immersion in about 1 metre of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. In practice that means hand-washing, rain and sweat are fine. It is not a swimming rating, and IP tests do not cover hot showers, soap or salt water.

Microphones and noise

Amazon says the dual microphones use "advanced noise filtering" for places like restaurants and open offices. Two microphones let software compare what each one hears and suppress sound that does not come from the direction of speech. No independent test of this has been published yet.

The button and the light

The microphone button is your main privacy control. Per bee.computer: a single press starts or stops capture, a long press records a voice note and a double press bookmarks a moment — see our controls guide. The light tells you, and anyone who notices it, that the device is on. Critics point out that a small LED on a wristband tells strangers very little — see our etiquette guide.
