Plaud vs Otter.ai: Do You Need a Recorder or Just an App?
Illustration: AmazonBee.in. Plaud vs Otter.ai at a glance.
"Plaud vs Otter" compares two different things: Otter.ai is an app, Plaud is a device plus an app. The right choice depends on where your conversations happen.
Where each shines
- Otter.ai sends a note-taking bot into Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, transcribes live and shares notes with your team. Nothing to buy or charge.
- Plaud is built for in-person conversations and phone calls — client visits, interviews, lectures, doctor appointments — where no laptop is running and a phone mic across a table struggles.
Cost
| Plaud | Otter.ai | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | ~$159–189 (₹16,990–20,990 in India) | none |
| Free | 300 min/month with device | 300 min/month, 30-min cap per conversation |
| Paid | ~$17.99/mo or $99.99/yr (1,200 min) | Pro $16.99/mo or ~$100/yr (1,200 min) |
Otter's paid plan is cheaper overall because there is no device. Note that Otter cut its Pro allowance to 1,200 minutes a month, a common complaint in 2026 reviews.
Can you use both?
Yes — many people do: Otter for video meetings, a Plaud (or Bee) for everything said in a room or on a phone call.
Our recommendation
- Mostly on video calls? Otter.ai (or your meeting platform's built-in AI notes).
- Mostly in person or on the phone? Plaud.
- Want effortless daily memory more than transcripts? Look at Amazon Bee or NeoSapien.
Where does Amazon Bee fit? Bee Frontier ($74.99) and Bee Eclipse ($99.99) are cheaper, but they delete audio after processing and are not sold in India yet. See Amazon Bee vs Plaud.
