What Is Amazon Bee? A Plain-English FAQ for Beginners
What is Amazon Bee?
Bee is Amazon's brand of small "personal AI" devices. They listen to conversations you choose to capture and turn them into summaries, to-dos, reminders and searchable memories in the Bee app. Amazon bought the startup behind Bee in 2025.
What devices are there?
- Bee Frontier ($74.99): worn on the wrist or clipped to clothing. Available now in the US.
- Bee Eclipse ($99.99): a thin card that attaches magnetically to the back of your phone. "Available soon".
Is it always listening?
No. Bee only listens after you press its button, and a light shows when it is on. It also turns its microphones off after a quiet period you set, from 5 minutes up to 24 hours.
Does it record audio?
Amazon says audio is processed in real time and then deleted; only text (transcripts and notes) is kept, encrypted with keys held on your device. That means you cannot replay a recording later.
Do I need a subscription?
No, but it helps. The device includes summaries, recaps and 14 days of memory. Bee Pro ($11.99/month) adds unlimited history, to-dos, templates, a chat assistant, a desktop app and integrations. Details: Bee Pro explained.
Which languages does it understand?
Bee's own product pages say 40+ languages, adapting to the one you use most. Amazon has not published the list, so Indian-language quality is unknown.
Does it work with Android?
Yes. Bee says its companion app is available on iOS and Android. See phone compatibility.
Can I buy it in India?
Not officially yet. See Amazon Bee in India and AI note-takers you can buy in India today.
Is it legal to use?
Usually, if the people you talk to know and agree. See Is voice recording legal in India?.
